Add a one-day
guided or unguided river trip into the enchanting white cliffs of the Upper
Missouri River to your Montana memories, and discover
a landscape rarely seen by the human eye...
You launch
your canoes into the Missouri River near Virgelle, Montana on your way
downstream to its confluence with Eagle Creek. The junction of these waterways
sustains a unique landscape that offered early
explorers and settlers a place of respite, with its gentle docking approach, variety of plant life, and
breathtaking scenery. Time, wind, and water have here shaped portions of the
Eagle Sandstone formation into spectacular cliffs and grotesque statuary. A variety of
flora line the banks and fill the nearby coulees with unusual foliage, resulting
from periodic flooding along Eagle Creek.
You may hike a sandstone
coulee, visit Native American sites, and dine on riverside fare
(guided/outfitted premium), before heading overland back to Virgelle, via
pickup truck and van. The total time needed for comfortable completion of this
trip is approximately 8 hours.
